Eine Sammlung von vierundzwanzig Legenden, die auf unterschiedlichen frühen Quellen beruhen: Neben der titelgebenden Legende geht es beispielsweise ebenso in „Die heilige Cäcilia", „Die Mutter Gottes und der Räuber" oder „Der Soldat und das Jesuskind" um die Wunderwelt der Heiligen, die sich dem Leser beim Eintauchen in das Geschehen offenbart. Emmy Ball-Hennings (1885-1948) war eine deutsche Schriftstellerin, Kabarettistin und Schauspielerin. Sie wuchs in Flensburg auf und spielte zunächst in verschiedenen Theatergruppen in Schleswig-Holstein. Zwischenzeitig lebte sie u.a. in Berlin, wo sie ebenfalls auftrat. Zusammen mit ihrem späteren Mann Hugo Ball und anderen Künstlern war sie 1916 Mitbegründerin des Dadaismus und des „Cabaret Voltaire" in Zürich.
